Stitch Fix Review – August 2016

It’s beginning to feel like Fall…at least my latest Fix from Stitch Fix makes me feel Fall is closely on the horizon.

IMG_5288

For my August Fix I requested a satchel bag, a skirt, and for the most part told my stylist to pick out whatever she felt would fit my style based on past fixes and my Pinterest Board.

#1 – Jolanda Embroidered Tunic by Alice Blue
I’ve been hoping and hinting for a tunic top for a couple months now, so I was excited when I read my note from my stylist that she included one in my latest fix. This tunic by Alice Blue is an essential for Fall. This top is super airy, has massive sleeves that make me feel I could potentially fly away, and the color/style just shouts Fall is here! I can’t wait for the cooler weather to blow in so I can wear this to work.

#2 – Renesme Geo Cube Jersey Faux Wrap Dress by 41Hawthorn
First things first, I’ve read and seen all the Twilight books and movies so my first thought when I saw the name of this dress brought me back to my college days with my roommates, reading the series and seeing it in the theatres. Anyways, moving on. This dress is amazing! It’s absolutely fabulous and I’m in love. It’s super comfortable, flattering, and such a lovely print. Another classic Fall piece. My stylist picked this one right from my Pinterest board, and I couldn’t be more pleased with it. Definitely a must request item.

#3 – Deandra Textured Aline Skirt by Margaret M
For some reason I decided to be “daring” this month and request my first ever Stitch Fix skirt. Now, I’m not much of a skirt person at all, but I kept seeing beautiful images of outfits with skirts on Pinterest, so I was curious if I could pull one off. I’ve tried Margaret M pants before, and have loved them, so I was excited to see my stylist decided to go with that company for my first Stitch Fix skirt. Margaret M is all about flattering figures and providing pieces that thin you. This skirt is cute, but one thing to note is that it really showcases off all your curves. You can totally make out the shape of my lower stomach, something I’m not used to highlighting. If you’re uncomfortable with the skirt hugging your curves, pull up the skirt higher up your torso, turning it into a high waisted skirt, this instantly smoothes you without the cling, giving you a polished looked. It’ll take some getting used to, but I can’t wait to pair this skirt with some of my previous Fix shirts. Pro tip, this skirt looks amazing with flowy tops.

#4 – Marisol Mixed Material 3/4 Sleeve Knit Top by Papermoon
What a cute and comfortable top this is! I love the colors and design. In fact, I secretly wish the whole top was the same pattern that’s on the back. This top feels like butter, it’s so soft. My stylist suggested I pair this top with my new Margaret M skirt, which color wise goes perfectly together. Once it’s a bit cooler out, I’ll have to take the whole outfit out on the town, or let’s be honest, wear it to work 🙂

#5 – Valencia Mini Structured Satchel by Octavia
My all time favorite bag is one with a cross body strap, it makes traveling a breeze and I don’t have to worry about losing my purse. I’ve been dying to find the perfect Satchel bag since some of my cross body bags have seen much better days. I had requested one in burgundy, but none were available, but this color (Teal according to my stylist) is fabulous, and maybe a new favorite! It’s the perfect size for me, and there’s still plenty of empty space inside after I’ve added in my usual purse essentials. I love that you can opt to wear it on your arm, or cross body. The cross body strap is also removable, which is always a great bonus. The satchel has a wonderfully spacious zipper compartment on the outside, a zippered pocket within the main part of the bag, along with an extra pocket. I’ve literally used this bag everyday since my fix arrived, it’s perfect!

Final Thoughts:  I’ve lucked out and had another great fix.  I’m super excited for Fall to come so I can enjoy some of these pieces more. This fix also taught me to keep my mind open, like with the skirt, and not to be afraid of color (satchel bag!).  I ended up keeping everything, and am looking forward to seeing what my stylist has in mind for me next month. I’m hoping I’ll get the perfect pair of black leggings, and maybe a fun Fall jacket! Until next time, happy fixing!

Suggestions for a better fix:

  1. Be very specific. If there are certain pieces or types of clothing you really want, provide that in your styling note to your stylist.
  2. Create a Pinterest Board. Stylists will check them out if you keep mentioning them in your style notes.
  3. Call out designers or names of actual articles of clothing . Your stylist may not provide those exact items but they’ll start to get a better sense of what style you’re into.

Stitch Fix Review – July 2016

IMG_5248

It may be a few days late, but I’m excited to bring to you my July Stitch Fix haul! I asked for short sleeve tops and dresses, things I could wear to work or hang out in. This month my stylist purused my Pinterest board again, and noticed a theme of green – one I hadn’t been aware of, but apparently I pinned a fair amount of green items, so she made sure to include something in that hue.

My July fix contained 2 short sleeved tops, 2 mid/long sleeve tops, and one faux wrap dress. Now to the fashion!

#1 – Ava Floral Print Silk Henley Blouse by 41Hawthorn
This top is super lightweight and flowy. It’s pretty comfortable and cute. The pattern is a beautiful floral print in a nice green and navy color combo. The only con I have is that the arm holes are cut a little too small, riding up a bit in my armpits so I’ll probably hold off wearing it in the summer months when it’s too hot. This will be a cute top to wear under a navy blazer in the fall.

#2 – Cyrano Button Front Blouse by Papermoon
It’s mid summer, and it’s hot hot hot! I’m so thankful my stylist provided me with this colorful blouse by Papermoon. Something about the print says “picnic” to me, maybe because it’s somewhat similar to a traditional picnic table cover. I love how airy this top is. There’s no cling, it drapes across your chest comfortably, and is just the perfect top for pairing with white shorts in the summertime.

#3 – Tameron Button Down Blouse by 41Hawthorn
With fall around the corner, it’s prime time to start requesting some longer sleeved tops. If you’re looking for something cute, casual, yet able to be dressed up, this button down blouse is for you! Not only is this color to die for, but it apparently comes in a ton of other colors, which my stylist let me know are available in case I fell in love. I might just have to take her up on that. I also love the rolled sleeve detail, it’s effortless yet classic. Pair this top with a great pair of jeans, or white pants, and you’re good to go! Side note, I kind of feel ready for a safari in this top haha.

#4 – Bilson Pleat Detail Blouse by Daniel Rainn
This blouse is actually “two” tops in one. Inside of the blouse is a sewn in cami to provide extra coverage under the sheerness of the blouse. The cami is attached just at the top of the straps so it can probably be removed. I’m thinking of detaching them so I can put them on one at a time. Right now with the cami attached, I find it to be quite the challenge to find the arm holes and get this over my head. With all that to the side, I want to point out how cute this little white dotted pattern is. To me, the top almost looks like the night sky full of little white stars. You could dress this up or down and be comfortable all at the same time. A perfect top for the fall weather coming up.

#5 – Rocco Jersey Faux Wrap Dress by 41Hawthorn
Ladies, we’ve all been told we need a little black dress in our closet, and I think I found the perfect one for all shapes and sizes! This faux wrap dress by 41Hawthorn is to die for. Not only is it super comfortable, but it’s really fashionable. Once you put it on, you’ll feel elegant and sophisticated. Heck, I was ready for a night on the town with my boyfriend when I put this on, it’s such a mood booster. It’s the type of dress and cut that would be flattering for everyone. When I pulled it out of my Stitch Fix box I thought it looked familiar. I quickly dashed to my closet, and low and behold I have the same exact dress from Stitch Fix but with sleeves. I guess I now have all the seasons covered 🙂

Some final thoughts:  This month’s fix was great! While I would have preferred more options that I could wear during the current season, I loved the finds my stylist sent my way, I’ll just have to wait until it’s not 90 degrees out 🙂 It also seems like 41Hawthorn is taking over my boxes. Three out of the 5 items this month were all from that brand, and I don’t mind! Overall, this is a 5 out of 5. My next box comes next week, so keep an eye in this spot!

Stitch Fix Review – June 2016

IMG_4738

It’s time for another Stitch Fix Review! For my 6th Fix I requested my stylist Kim provide me with flowly tops and dresses since it’s been pretty hot here in NYC and there’s nothing worse than wearing overly warm clothing when commuting on the train and subway!

This Fix contained four tops and one dress. As I opened the box, I was pleasantly surprised with the color selection, everything was bright and cheery. So, let’s get down to business and check out the fashion!

#1 – Lore Pleat Detail Blouse by 41Hawthorn
This top is bright, flowy, and really comfy. Right down the center is a full length pleat, which is flattering for the top part at least, but I felt that the bottom of the pleat looked a little awkward. I think once I steam the top (there were a few wrinkles) that might make the top look more flattering overall.

#2 – Doutzen Crochet Detail Top by Daniel Rainn
Another pinned top has come my way! My stylist has been checking out my Pinterest Board again, and spotted I had pinned this top. Daniel Rainn must really be into crochet this season because this is the second top, two Fixes in a row, where I’ve received a crochet top from the designer. I can’t say I’m a big crochet person myself, but this top wasn’t too overdone and the detail was done in a charming way. I did find that the crochet landed on an awkward part of my chest, so sometimes when I went to lift my arms up the chest piece of crochet made things a bit stiff. I’m thinking with use and washing things will relax a bit. Overall, a comfy option that looks cute with jeans or white pants.

#3 – Senza Embroidery Detail Top by Skies are Blue
This top is just too cute and so much fun! It really brightens my mood and if my red hair didn’t say “look at me” enough, this top will certainly get someone’s attention. I recieved a size small in this top, and it’s still got tons of room to move around and breathe in, and it’s absolutely comfortable! I think this could be a Fourth of July contender.

#4 – Rolfe Knit Back Top by Brixon Ivy
Talk about a cute casual tank! I absolutely love this top. The back is solid navy, no print, while the front is a bright floral design, perfect for shorts or jeans. I have a feeling I’m going to get a lot of use out of this top this summer. Oh, and the top is so soft! It’s a must have tank ladies!

#5 – Evelyne Jersey V-neck Maxi Dress by Le Lis
When I read my stylist’s note saying she included a maxi dress I have to admit I wasn’t excited. I’m not a maxi dress kind of girl. I’ve owned one other in my life and it’s sitting in the back of my closet. For me, when I hear the words maxi dress, I feel I have to be some super tall modelesque type, who’s at least five foot eight, which I’m not. But, I said what the heck let’s give this a try and see if my stylist is onto something. Let me tell you, I had the hardest time getting this dress on. First it was hard to figure out where the front was vs the back, and then the elastic bodice wasn’t so elastic so as I was pulling the dress over my chest it definitely stretched out some of the sewing holding in the elastic, but I eventually got myself situated. Once in the dress, I felt it was pretty flattering and I liked that it had thick enough straps to conceal bra straps. I’m going to keep an open mind and hope the dress grows on me. One neat tidbit is the dress was made in the USA, not something you see a lot!

Some final thoughts:  This fix was great! As I tried on each item I kept saying to myself “is this going to be a 5 out of 5, I think it just might be.” Ultimately, it was and I decided to keep all 5. I didn’t have any issues with any of the items, and I really felt like my stylist is starting to get better in tune with my likes and style.

Suggestions for a better fix:

  1. Be very specific. If there are certain pieces or types of clothing you really want, provide that in your styling note to your stylist.
  2. Create a Pinterest Board. Stylists will check them out if you keep mentioning them in your style notes.

Stitch Fix Review – May 2016

IMG_4520

This month I ordered my 5th fix from Stitch Fix, a service where a personal stylist collects tidbits from you via a style profile (and optional Pinterest boards) and ships out a package of 5 goodies (clothes, accessories, shoes) for you. Learn more details about Stitch Fix in my previous post.

IMG_4474

This month I asked for 3-4 sleeveless or short sleeve tops and told my stylist to pick something fun for the rest of the items. I also shared a link to my Pinterest board and called out two tops I really liked the style of. My past fixes haven’t been super successful, but for this fix, my stylist Kim really listened.

My fix consisted of 4 tops and one dress. I was secretly hoping for a burgundy satchel bag, which I told Kim I would love to have if they had one on hand, but I was pleased to get a box full of clothes that fit my personality. Now onto the fashion!

#1 – Ardenas Split Neck Blouse by Collective Concepts
This Collective Concepts top is lightweight, colorful, and as my stylist suggested, looks great with white cropped pants. I’ve seen this top a ton on Pinterest, and even pinned it myself. See, Pinterest can pay off when it comes to working with your Stitch Fix Stylist!

#2 – Florizel Henley Blouse by 41Hawthorne
I wasn’t expecting to get a top like this in my fix, and while it’s “short” sleeved looking in the picture, it can actually unroll into a long sleeved top. I love the color and fabric on this blouse. Definitely something I’ll be wearing once it’s no longer in the 90s here in New York/New Jersey.

#3 – Aerin Dress by Market and Spruce
I’m in love with everything about this dress. Another Pinterest favorite amongst a lot of you ladies. The dress comes with a light lining built in, and overall is light and flowy – perfect for Spring and Summer. You also can’t go wrong with a wrap tie dress, which flatters just about every body type, easily giving everyone a great little waist.

#4 – Ronan Crochet Detail Blouse by Daniel Rainn
I was really hesitant about this blouse. I received a size Medium and think that I probably could have gotten away with a Small. What you can’t tell from the image is that this top is a hi-low style, where the back is significantly longer than the front. Additionally, the blouse has a drop waist, which would be a lot more flattering if it was tighter, but the pattern and colors are too cute to pass up. I tried pairing the top with a belt to see if that would help with waist definition (see below). I think I’ll have to keep playing around with the look to make it work best for my body.

#5 – Hollace Button Front Blouse by Aratta
This floral blouse just screams Spring. I was hesitant about the fit with this top too, thinking I could probably fit into a Small rather than the Medium I received. The arm holes are a bit large, so your bra may show. The back has a funky cut to it (see my pic below), making it really airy and aesthetically unique. The back is also a lot longer than the front, another hi-low style which would look perfect with leggings. While we’re on the topic of leggings, I’m not a leggings as pants kinda girl, but this top is long in the front and back, making it a great fit for leggings without showing off anything you don’t want to show.

Some final thoughts: The 25% discount dilemma is real. If you end up keeping everything in your fix you get a nice 25% discount off the total cost. I wasn’t a super huge fan of the cut of the Daniel Rainn Ronan Crochet Detail Blouse, probably due to sizing, but really liking everything else in my fix made me decide to keep everything so I could get the 25% discount off my order. Ultimately, I’m super happy with this fix and feel like my boxes are improving again. I look forward to ordering another box and seeing what Kim has in store for me 🙂

Suggestions for a better fix:

  1. Be very specific – if there are certain pieces or types of clothing you really want, provide that in your styling note to your stylist.
  2. Create a Pinterest Board. We know last time that didn’t work out so great for me, but this time my stylist checked out my board and really tried to capture my style from the examples I pinned.
  3. Call out designers or names of actual articles of clothing – your stylist may not provide those exact items but they’ll start to get a better sense of what style you’re into
